FREE FROM RELIGION

Religion is an incarnation of the most childish superstitions- Albert Einstein

Two weeks back I was in Bangalore for some personal work. I was enjoying my coffee while looking at fabulous lake views from the balcony in evening. I was studying about the civil-war like situation in Syria in Economist Magazine and was really petrified by the images. I started thinking about how the whole world today is fighting over the name of religion and races. Had there been no religion, there would not have been any terrorism….

I went through an emotional roller coaster while thinking about religion and its importance in human life.  Here I’ve tried to express my emotions through a poem titled Mezhab which is actually an urdu word and translates to dharm in Hindi and religion in English.

                                                      Mezhab

Hai duniya ye aisi bhanwar jisme phase duniya ke log,

Hindu Muslim sikkh isai ya ho buddh ya ho bahawi,
Mezhab ki batten rehti hum sub per hawi.

Hum niche kehte mehzeb se hai pehchan hamari,
Ishwar maula yishu wahe guru ke chakkar me uljhi hai ye shrishti sari.

Insaan kehta is jagat me hum padte sub jiwon per bhari
Per parinda hans kar kehta, re murakh hume na lagi tum jaisi mezhab ki bimari
Hum parinde gagan me udte, hain khusnasib jo na mezhab ke chakkar me padte

Nafrat ki aag me jhulas kar insaan hi jub haiwan bane,
Jaanwar hans kar kehte, insaan se hum jaanwar hi bhale..

Le parindon jaanwaron se ye sikh,
mehzeb ki is khokhli pehchan ke chakkar me, na to aman chain ki ye reet

PS:- I've written both in Hindi and English dialects as some of my friends can speak Hindi but can't read or write it..

Some meanings for the convenience of readers:
khokhli- holllow
bhanwar- dark lonely space
amir-rich
fakir-poor
shristi-world
jiw- creature
bimari-disease
reet-custom

its not Mezhab its Mazhab and also in Hindi its not मजहब its मज़हब.. The ज is with a nukta i.e a dot under that. Else all is nice.

There's no such religion that teaches us to hate other religion. Therefore, fighting in the name of religion is misinterpreting your religious principles.

I believe in all religions. In fact, I follow humanity as religion. God, Allah and Bhagwan are same: God is in English, Allah in Urdu and Bhagwan in Hindi.

Ankita - It's difficult for some people to get to that minute details. Great observation.
Rachna - I like your thoughts. The religion teaches us how to live a better life but the learning is badly missing. We are engaged with other activities and there is no time to understand the basics of life.
Great poem Gaurav..Keep the wonderful words on!!

Sirji... Your cognizance is great!

The verse is absolutely true to the core.
Especially the comparision with Parinda/Jaanwar is nice :)

All I can say...
Keep up the good work and... BRAVO !!
